A great camera. I really see no reason to upgrade to the heavier and pricer 40/50D. One thing you’ll prob want to know is that buying a dslr is not a one-time investment. You’ll likely be purchasing more lens and accessories in the future, and all that added together easily exceeds the initial camera and body price. With that taken into account, if you want a cheaper body, I suggest a Nikon D40. You can easily find it new with the kit lens for under $400 at Amazon.com . The only thing that it has going against it is that it doesnt autofocus with older, non-afs lenses. The only reason why you would prefer a Canon is if you want faster fps shooting speed, more megapixels (which doesnt nessecarily translate to better image quality), already own canon lenses, and maybe a better included software. Otherwise, the D40 is full of win.

Sure.
Take a look at the Sony A300. This camera has Live View that actually works with the auto focus and Sony thoughtfully placed its version of Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. Every lens you use will be an IS lens. Canon and Nikon can’t say that since they have the IS in their lenses – and not every lens they offer has it. Plus you get to pay for the IS technology with every IS lens you buy.
The benefit of Sony’s Live View is this: Suppose you’re in a crowd (think parade) and have to hold the camera over your head to get the picture. Just flip the screen down and you can look up at it, compose, check focus and shoot. Or, suppose you’re shooting a macro picture at ground level. Just flip the screen up.
You may hear that Nikon and Canon have more lenses than Sony but that isn’t entirely true. The Sony DSLR line can use every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 plus ones made for the Maxxum mount by Vivitar, Tamron, Sigma and Tokina. Add the ones now being marketed for Sony by those manufacturers (excluding Vivitar) and you have a huge selection of lenses – and every single one will be an IS lens. Nikon’s lens compatibility is legendary and deserved as is Canon’s. However, think about how beneficial it is to buy a 24 year old Maxxum AF 300mm lens and have it be an IS lens. A 20 year old Nikon or Canon lens won’t be an IS lens.
I wonder how many “Thumbs Down” I’ll get for the heresy of refusing to worship at the Nikon-Canon altar. Oh well.
Yes,Canon Rebel Xsi is a good camera.Features and picture quality are great.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012YA…
Canon Lens are one of the best lenses you can get specially the L version of EF lenses-~-
Canon lens are better than Nikon lens in my opinion*:’
Canon lens are the best, Nikkors are great too but they are more expensive’-,
Canon Lens and Zeiss lenses are the best optical lenses that you can buy these days ;
This is one excellent camera, even with the relatively low megapixels resolution the overall quality of features for this price makes one of the bests (if not the best) machines of the category.
